Miki Horie, Ph.D.
Professor, College of Global Liberal Arts, Ritsumeikan University
Miki Horie is a researcher and a practitioner of international and intercultural education. She has been committed to exploring mechanisms of personal growth through cross-border learning in order to develop programs for students to support their intercultural development and for educators to facilitate such processes in various educational contexts throughout primary, secondary, and higher education. She is also a former school principal (2017-2020: Ritsumeikan Primary School and Ritsumeikan Junior and Senior High School, 2021-2023: Ritsumeikan Primary School) and has been involved in a process of shaping school culture to promote “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.” Such experiences motivated her to develop her unique career identity as an "Interculturalist-Principal." She also heads the BRIDGE Institute, a group of professional international education facilitators. She received BA and MA degrees in Education from Nagoya University, Japan, in 1995, and Ph.D in Educational Policy and Administration in 2003 and the Distinguished Leadership Award for Internationals in 2009 from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, USA.
